Sonia & Sam
The first time I photographed Sonia and Sam was their intimate backyard wedding, one of my most favourite memories and weddings I’ve shot. Naturally, when Sonia reached out to me wanting to do an anniversary session I was thrilled to be photographer to some of the kindest people I’ve ever met once again. One year after photographing their wedding I spent this cozy Sunday morning photographing these two in their sweet home, in Toronto on their anniversary. We spent the morning catching up, chatting and drinking oh so much coffee. I loved finding all the little moments of great light throughout their home.
Whenever I’m photographing a couple I want to tell their story. Having them do something they normally would, or something they love to do together makes the photos so much more significant and makes them so much more natural. It takes the focus off of taking photos and changes it to enjoying the moment and making a memory together. It allows me to capture how the moment feels rather than how it looks and that’s my approach to photography. This waking up on a Sunday morning coffee time together was so perfect, and just an amazing way to reflect the beautiful relationship and home they’ve built together. (And I mean really built, these two did all of their renovations and remodelling on their own, check out Sam’s reno’s here). This is what Sundays are made for.
After this cozy in home anniversary session, I left feeling so encouraged, inspired and so happy for these two. Thank you so much Sonia and Sam for inviting me into you home, and into your lives. I am so grateful for you both!
